Expression of Interest: Adaptation Progress Research – Consultancy Services

The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) requests Expressions of Interest from individual consultants to support research on adaptation progress.

INTRODUCTION
The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is an international organization that works as a solutions broker to catalyze action and support for adaptation solutions, from the international to the local, in partnership with the public and private sector, to ensure we learn from each other and work together for a climate resilient future. Adapting to impacts of climate change provides a “win-win” for health, livelihoods, food security, water supply, human security and economic growth. The work of the GCA elevates the visibility and political importance of climate adaptation and facilitates solutions, such as smarter investments, new technologies and better planning to become more resilient to climate-related threats. GCA is a rapidly growing organization with offices in Abidjan, Beijing, Dhaka, Groningen, and Rotterdam.

The GCA has an ambitious 2020-2025 business plan with three pillars:

  • Programs and Action: Food Security; Using Nature for more resilient infrastructure; Water for Urban Growth and Resilience; Climate Finance; Youth Leadership
  • Knowledge Acceleration: Building adaptation knowledge globally through cutting edge products such as the State and Trends in Adaptation Report and the Knowledge Exchange Platform
  • Agenda Setting and Advocacy: Formulating policy messages to move the global, regional, and local adaptation agendas forward.

INFORMATION ON CONSULTANCY
The Consultant Adaptation Progress Research will advise the Chief Scientist, while working closely with others in the Research & Innovation team. They will play a crucial role in data collection and analysis, contributing to the State & Trends in Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (STAKE) platform, facilitating the process towards the tracking of progress in climate adaptation action, and contributing to research that feeds into upcoming State & Trends in Adaptation Reports.

Activities:
Contribute to the following research activities

  • Update the inventory of case studies and adaptation solutions and their assessment framework,
  • Update the database and analysis framework systematizing the update process of the NDCs and their baselines
  • Update the adaptation country profiles

Contribute towards STAKE development

  • Integrate the inventory of adaptation projects and case studies in Africa and other regions of interest
  • Integrate the adaptation solutions framework
  • Integrate updated country profiles

Support the edit, review and publication of research papers and reports including:

  • The global review of Nationally Determined Contributions (research paper)
  • The Adaptation Projects Assessment Framework, as supporting material for STAKE

DURATION OF CONTRACT
12 months, 5 working days per week. Start date November 2021.
