Expression of Interest: Non-State & Private Sector Climate Action Research – Consultancy Services

The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) requests Expressions of Interest from individual consultant to support research on non-state & private sector climate action.

INTRODUCTION
The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is an international organization that works as a solutions broker to catalyze action and support for adaptation solutions, from the international to the local, in partnership with the public and private sector, to ensure we learn from each other and work together for a climate resilient future. Adapting to impacts of climate change provides a “win-win” for health, livelihoods, food security, water supply, human security and economic growth. The work of the GCA elevates the visibility and political importance of climate adaptation and facilitates solutions, such as smarter investments, new technologies and better planning to become more resilient to climate-related threats. GCA is a rapidly growing organization with offices in Abidjan, Beijing, Dhaka, Groningen, and Rotterdam.

The GCA has an ambitious 2020-2025 business plan with three pillars:

  • Programs and Action: Food Security; Using Nature for more resilient infrastructure; Water for Urban Growth and Resilience; Climate Finance; Youth Leadership
  • Knowledge Acceleration: Building adaptation knowledge globally through cutting edge products such as the State and Trends in Adaptation Report and the Knowledge Exchange Platform
  • Agenda Setting and Advocacy: Formulating policy messages to move the global, regional, and local adaptation agendas forward.

INFORMATION ON CONSULTANCY
The consultant will assist in analysis and the collection of data towards the expansions of the Climate Initiatives Tracker on GCA”s online platform State and Trends in Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (STAKE) and will conduct, in partnership with the CDP, a landscape assessment of existing initiatives, policies, tools and standards that aim to direct and support the private sector and cooperative initiatives to effectively contribute to climate resilient societies. The research analyst will work in partnership with CDP, World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and other organizations, to define good corporate practice in contributing to climate resilient societies.

The Consultant Research Analyst Non-state & Private Sector Climate Action will advise the Senior Researcher Non-State Climate Action, while working closely with others in the Research & Innovation team under the Chief Scientist. They will play a crucial role in data collection and analysis, contributing to the State & Trends in Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (STAKE) platform, facilitating the process towards the tracking of non-state & private sector climate adaptation action, and contributing to research that feeds into upcoming State & Trends in Adaptation Reports.

Activities

  • Assist in analysis and the collection of data towards the expansions of the Climate Initiatives Tracker on STAKE.
  • Assist in the training and supervision of interns contributing to data-collection and analysis.
  • Conduct, in partnership with CDP, a landscape assessment of existing initiatives, policies, tools and standards that aim to direct and support the private sector and cooperative initiatives to effectively contribute to climate resilient societies.
  • Work in partnership with CDP, World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and other organizations, to define good corporate practice in contributing to climate resilient societies.
  • Facilitate in partnership with e.g. CDP the process towards formulating norms and standards concerning what companies should be measuring, disclosing and what practices they should be changing
  • Identify the opportunities for CDP and GCA to scale collective adaptation action among private sector actors.
  • Lead the development of at least 10 illustrative case studies or ‘Adaptation Insights’ on private sector actors, particularly large enterprises, to be featured on STAKE.

DURATION OF CONTRACT
12 months, 5 working days per week. Start date November 2021.
