he climate crisis we are facing requires us to accelerate actions we are taking to adapt, and we must do so at scale and with speed. The climate crisis we are facing requires us to accelerate actions we are taking to adapt, and we must do so at scale and with speed. This means redoubling our efforts at every level. One crucial area is to increase our knowledge base, so we can be well informed as we make our world more resilient for future generations.
Today we are announcing an important partnership between the Global Center on Adaptation and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. This brings together our shared commitment to develop a programme of innovation and education focused on climate adaptation. I am convinced this will benefit the new generation of young leaders, decision-makers, scholars, students and practitioners.
The Global Center on Adaptation’s Young Leadership Programme is already underway, with the goal of bringing on a new generation of leaders to accelerate adaptation. It is a sign of our commitment to work tirelessly to help find solutions to the climate crisis upon us.
The Global Center on Adaptation and the University of Groningen are developing a new master’s program in Climate Adaptation and Governance at the Faculty Campus Fryslân. This will be an important building block to give the tools to the next generation to act and adapt. This program, and many others we plan to roll-out in the near future, is open to the academic community of Groningen and to scholars and students from anywhere in the world.
We will also promote the exchange of students from all regions in the world, and support visiting programs for adaptation researchers and professionals, particularly from the developing world. Our mission is clear – to accelerate knowledge-sharing and enhance and support in education and training at all levels.
The agreement we signed today demonstrates the Global Center on Adaptation’s commitment to be a center of excellence for science, education, and knowledge building on adaptation – focused on our office and team in Groningen. Today’s announcement is a step forward in our mission to scale-up research and education activities to help build a more resilient future for us all.
