The Solutions Broker for Adaptation Action

W e are an international organization working as a solutions broker to accelerate action and support for adaptation solutions, from the international to the local, in partnership with the public and private sector, to ensure we learn from each other and work together for a climate-resilient future.

Founded in 2018, our global headquarters is hosted by the Netherlands in the largest floating office in the world in Rotterdam, with regional offices in Africa, South Asia and Asia Pacific, and a knowledge and research hub based in Groningen. Through our evolving network of offices, we engage in innovative solutions to drive adaptation at scale, high-level policy development, new research contributions, advocacy, communications, and work with our partners to deliver action on the ground.

Our work focuses on those who are the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change including the poorest people in the poorest countries. They are the least prepared to withstand the triple health, social and economic impacts of our climate emergency.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to act as a solutions broker to accelerate, innovate and scale adaptation action for a climate-resilient world.

OUR VISION

Adaptation to our changing climate secures progress towards sustainable development, safeguarding people, the planet and our shared prosperity.

Our Pillars of Activity

The value proposition of GCA as a solutions broker combines our ability to mobilize finance
with three pillars of activity: programs and action; knowledge acceleration; and agenda
setting and advocacy supported by cross-cutting activities.

Programs & Action

We work with our partners to provide a unique adaptation perspective across the strategy and design of programs, mobilize finance, advise on project implementation, design appropriate governance structures and procure the best delivery partners.

Knowledge Acceleration

We accelerate the application of knowledge to adaptation issues through facilitating the uptake of knowledge sharing; effective knowledge management and knowledge creation; leading research where gaps in knowledge, research and science exist; and driving innovation to develop specific approaches, such as portfolio reviews, which can be mainstreamed by our partners.

Agenda Setting & Advocacy

We use our convening power to bring together the most influential opinion formers to create a community and stimulate further growth of the adaptation coalition and movement. We identify research gaps and work with pre-eminent organizations to produce and publish landmark reports to shape the adaptation agenda.
