Young Leaders Program to Cultivate Next Generation of Adaptation Professionals

A s part of its commitment to build on, improve, and deliver breakthrough climate adaptation solutions, the Global Center on Adaptation has announced a Young Leaders Program for university students from all regions of the world who are enrolled in a full-time graduate study program, (pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. degree). Fostering synergies between original and applied research is one of the overarching objectives of the internship program.

This new internship program allows students to bring new perspectives, innovative ideas, and the latest research experience into the work of the Global Center and improve their skills while working in a diverse environment. Students will conduct their work for a period of three months at the Global Center’s Netherlands offices, either via term 1 running January 15 – April 15, 2019 or term 2 running May 15- August 15, 2019.

It will provide an opportunity for advanced students to engage with and contribute knowledge to the work of the Global Center, especially our mission to advance bold actions to accelerate adaptation.”

Jouke de Vries, President of the University of Groningen, which, along with the City of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences, is a host of the Global Center’s Groningen office said, “The Global Center’s Young Leaders program will empower the students of today to become the climate leaders of tomorrow. Our students have an important role to play in accelerating climate adaptation, helping to create a more climate resilient future for all of us.”

Young Leaders Program Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for an internship, candidates must have an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (pursuing a Naster’s or Ph.D.’s degree with plans to return to school full-time). Fluency in English is required. Additional knowledge of other languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and/or Chinese is preferable. Skills such as social competences and computing skills are advantageous.

Additional Information

The Internship Program seeks candidates in the following fields: economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social sciences (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, engineering, geography., law, social psychology and planning, natural resources management, private sector development, and other related fields.

Selected interns will work from the both the Groningen and Rotterdam office of the Global Center on Adaptation. Interns will be paid on an hourly basis for hours worked. The salary is determined by a market comparison based on education and work experience. Interns are responsible for their own living accommodations, insurance and visa.
