T he COP26 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow is the most significant summit and gathering of the world’s governments on climate policy for years, as well as a major opportunity to galvanize global cooperation for Africa’s response to the escalating climate emergency. As global development and environmental leaders have pointed out, for COP26 to succeed, it is vital that the adaptation agenda be elevated to equal priority with emission controls. This is the “adaptation acceleration imperative” for COP26. Accelerating adaptation in Africa is therefore a top priority deliverable for Glasgow, and driving broad-based implementation of resilience actions on the ground, a key follow-up agenda for COP26.
