The Multi Stakeholder Dialogue on Climate Risks in Investments will be the opportunity to present and discuss the climate hazard assessment and Nature Based Solutions (NBS) for sustainable adaptation strategies for the railway corridor.

Event description

The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is organizing a virtual “Dialogue on Climate Risks in Investments” as part of the technical assistance to incorporate climate resilience and underpin NBS investment prioritization for the Kampala-Malaba Metre Gauge Railway (MGR) project. This event aims to facilitate comprehensive discussions on climate change risks and the implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in Uganda.

The technical assistance is implemented as part of the African Adaptation Acceleration Program, a joint initiative from GCA, the African Union and the African Development Bank, to increase access to climate finance and mainstream climate adaptation in investment projects.

The virtual stakeholder dialogue serves as the first planned dialogue to support the MGR investment project implemeted by Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) in Uganda. The primary objectives of the dialogue are to discuss the findings from the climate change risk assessment and engage participants in discussions regarding the feasibility and potential benefits of integrating NBS to ensure the climate resilience of the MGR investment project. The event will also seek to identify potential areas of collaboration, required resources, and the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing NBS in Uganda.

Representatives from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) will join the event to share their insights and expertise on the project and NBS. along side the consortium of Royal Haskoning DHV, Lobelia and Newplan, the implementation partner of GCA.
