Mobilizing Investment: Kick-off Finance Roundtables for Nature-Based Solutions
The event will kick off finance roundtables for Nature-Based Solutions. Acting as a catalyst, it aims to kickstart a process to mobilize financing for NbS and support subsequent roundtable meetings to drive further adaptation investments.
Event description
Scaling investment in effective nature-based solutions (NbS) for adaptation is essential for addressing climate change and advancing sustainable development. To meet the global goal of limiting warming to 1.5°C under the Paris Agreement, an estimated $11 trillion in investment—equivalent to approximately $400 billion annually—will be required in NbS from 2022 to 2050 (UNEP, 2022). In response to this urgent challenge, GCA, in collaboration with the University of Oxford, has developed the Global Tools for NbS, an initiative aimed at accelerating investment in NbS as a crucial strategy for building climate-resilient infrastructure systems and services.
The goal is to address critical data gaps by:
- Assessing and pricing climate risks for infrastructure systems,
- Quantifying the protective value of nature-based assets for infrastructure, and
- Leveraging this data to identify and evaluate investment opportunities in nature-based solutions (NbS).
This initiative provides policymakers, financial institutions, and private investors with actionable insights and analytics to integrate NbS into national and sub-national infrastructure planning.
