The webinar “Best Practices for Building an Adaptive Coastal City” will share the benefits, learnings, and best practices for building an adaptive coastal city.

Event description:

With support from the International Panel on Deltas and Coastal Areas (IPDC), GCA China is collaborating with the Ministry of the Ecology and Environment of China (MEE) and Weihai City to conduct two webinars focused on building a climate-adaptive city to integrate climate resilience in city development.

The first webinar, Climate Risk Assessments to Improve Climate Resilience in Coastal Cities, provided urban decision-makers with more comprehensive risk assessment tools and methods for promoting the enhancement of climate risk assessment capabilities in coastal cities.

The second webinar, “Best Practices for Building an Adaptive Coastal City,” will share the benefits, learnings, and best practices for building an adaptive coastal city.

Discussion on How to Build an Adaptive Coastal City

The events will be held online, with participants able to pre-register and join via Zoom. The events will start with a brief introduction by the chair.  Following that are four presentations (each speech 20 minutes), participants will learn about how to analyze and assess the climate change risks facing coastal cities, understand the implementation pathways for assessing climate risk, and explore the best practices worldwide. Following the presentations, there will be a 10-minute Q&A session for attendees to ask questions about topics covered in the talks or specific climate risk assessment issues encountered in their work, facilitating idea-sharing and information exchange. Finally, the chair will provide a summary as a closing of the event. The event will be in English and provide live interpretation in English and Chinese. The outcomes of this dialogue will be integrated into the final roadmap report for the project of supporting the Climate-Adaptive City Construction Program.

Key objectives:
The overall goal of the two webinars is to catalyze a comprehensive dialogue among key stakeholders, experts, and decision-makers, focusing on climate risk assessment and exchange of best practices in building an adaptive coastal city. Through in-depth dialogue and knowledge-sharing, these webinars aim to inform the development of a robust city action plan for building an adaptive coastal city. The two webinars also intend to empower participants with the insights and tools necessary to contribute actively to the formulation of a dynamic roadmap that will guide coastal cities toward a resilient, sustainable, and adaptive future in the face of climate change. The detailed objectives are as follow:
