GCA’s Urban Climate Resilience Masterclass (UCRMC) Training-of-Trainers (ToT) will be delivered to 20 trainers in Dhaka between May 17–19 by GCA and our partners International Institute of Environment and Development (IIED) and the Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP).

Event description

The ToT aims to build national capacity to roll out trainings to municipal stakeholders about understanding of key urban climate vulnerabilities and risks, and how to plan and integrate climate resilience in urban infrastructure and services. The UCRMC is part of GCA’s support to ADB’s Improving Urban Governance and Infrastructure (IUGIP) which aims to support pourashavas in enhancing municipal services, governance, and the integration of climate resilience into urban planning strategies. The program targets 88 municipalities and is implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).

Objective: The overall objective of the UCRMC is for participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of urban climate resilience building, including climate risks and vulnerabilities, and develop the knowledge and skills to implement effective climate resilience measures, including nature-based solutions, financing options, and transformative adaptation strategies, while integrating climate resilience into urban infrastructure and planning. It is expected that through the Masterclass, participants will:

  • Recognize key climate risks facing cities and the need for resilient infrastructure.
  • Understand and be able to commission Climate Risk Assessments (CRAs).
  • Engage stakeholders for locally-led adaptation that supports equity.
  • Integrate resilience into urban planning and infrastructure.
  • Identify financing options for climate-resilient investments.

This training represents a key opportunity for Bangladeshi cities to enhance their climate resilience strategies and make tangible improvements in urban infrastructure, building a more sustainable and resilient future for city residents across the country.
