The Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day is an initiative of the Global Center on Adaptation’s CEO, Professor Patrick V. Verkooijen. Global leaders including H.E. Ban Ki-moon, 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations, have also shown their support for the Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day.

“To quote Albert Einstein, “We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.” The problems that created our climate crisis are ones that this and the previous generation of elders knew about, understood the consequences of inaction, and yet have done too little to resolve. We know what the solutions are – the most eminent and distinguished scientists describe the steps that we must take in every new edition of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report. What is so often lacking is the will and determination to stick to the task. And that is where young people come in. This is why we need the energy, the drive, and conviction of young people to keep the policy makers and implementers honest. Your voices on the adaptation agenda are underutilized. My call, my request to you is: jump on that band-wagon and drive it.”

The twelve members of GCA’s CEO Youth Advisory Panel 2024 have expressed their support for the Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day. Hear from them on the different ways you can get involved and make a difference.

We, young people around the world, members of GCA’s CEO Youth Advisory Panel and members of the Youth Adaptation Movement, are calling on global leaders joining the UN Climate Change Summit at Baku, Azerbaijan (COP29), this November 2024 to double down on adaptation finance.

Through this petition, we, young people:

• Call on global leaders to meet the commitment to double adaptation finance by next year, ensuring that resources reach the most vulnerable countries and communities affected by climate change.
• Urge leaders to invest in youth-led adaptation initiatives and climate adaptation education by allocating dedicated financial resources to empower the next generation in tackling climate impacts.
• Demand decisive and tangible action at COP29 to uphold the commitments made in the Glasgow Climate Pact and Paris Agreement by mobilizing the necessary funds to advance adaptation.
