Event description

The ‘Dialogue on Accelerating Adaptation Education in a Climate Emergency’, organized by the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) in collaboration with the University of Nairobi, brought together global leaders, development partners, government officials, academics, and students to advance climate adaptation education in Africa. The event featured panel interventions from global leaders, students and young entrepreneurs, policy-makers and representatives from the academia.

GCA AT THE FOREFRONT OF DELIVERING CLIMATE ADAPTATION EDUCATION AT SCALE
GCA partnered with the University of Nairobi and the University of Groningen to develop a Youth Academy on Climate Adaptation and Leadership. The inaugural Youth Academy took place on 19th – 26th September 2024 at the University of Nairobi. It equipped students, government officials, youth organizations, and other youth stakeholders with knowledge and skills in climate adaptation and leadership, enabling them to become trainers and replicate training workshops across the country.

The training content is based on the Toolkit for Youth on Adaptation and Leadership, a project under the Global Center on Adaptation Youth Leadership Program, developed by the CARE Climate Justice Center with the financial support of Norad. The toolkit, developed in partnership with 40 youth organizations from across the African continent, is designed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to engage in climate adaptation policy, advocacy, and action. It consists of eight modules and is available online in French, English, and Arabic.
