Consultation on the African Youth Climate Council
Event description:
At COP 26 in Glasgow, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of AfDB, and Prof. Dr. Patrick Verkooijen, CEO of GCA, mooted the idea of establishing an African Youth Climate Council: An institutional connection between youth and decision-makers to ensure the transformative potential of young people can be integrated across decision making processes. The African Youth Climate Council will be established through a participatory process following regional and continental consultations with African youth organizations.
Description
GCA and the African Development Bank (AfDB) are organizing a four-hour consultation that will bring together young people and youth organizations to identify the gaps, needs and opportunities for meaningful youth participation across Africa.
Framing questions
The consultation will be centered around the following framing questions:
- Where are we now regarding youth participation across Africa?
- What should meaningful youth participation with regional development and investments look like?
- What is needed to promote and ensure meaningful youth participation with African institutions?
- If GCA and AfDB establish an African Youth Climate Council, what should be its mandate and focus?
This consultation is open by invitation only.
