GCA CONDOLES WITH KENYA ON PASSING OF PM RAILA ODINGA
NETHERLANDS – The Global Center on Adaptation wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the Government and the people of Kenya, and the entire continent of Africa on the loss of former Prime Minister Rt. Hon Raila Amollo Odinga, EGH.
We join his family and friends in mourning the loss of a steadfast Pan-African visionary who championed justice and equity for all.
Mr. Odinga was a pivotal advocate for climate justice, recognizing early that the climate crisis was a central challenge to Africa’s development and prosperity. As recently as in August 2024 whilst speaking at the Africa Union in Addis at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Mr. Odinga championed the urgent need for a just transition, emphasizing the continent’s vast potential in renewable energy and the critical importance of building resilient economies.
His leadership was instrumental in uniting African voices on the global stage, advocating for fair and ambitious international climate action. He consistently highlighted the interconnectedness of democratic governance, social justice, and environmental stewardship, arguing that the health of the planet is inextricably linked to the well-being of its people.
Even at this time of grief, Mr. Odinga’s legacy continues to challenge us all. May we rededicate ourselves to the principles he championed. His vision continues to inspire our work to build a world of equity, sustainability, and justice.
Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and all who were inspired by his leadership.
May he rest in peace.
