n Beijing, 80% of the annual rainfall occurs in the summer. Because of this, it is important for the city landscape to match the area’s hydrological dynamics. Green landscapes can serve multiple purposes, impounding water during the summer and providing a nice landscape during the winter. Floodplains and wetlands – key parts of the water eco-system – contribute to the livability and safety of cities.
International experts exchanged knowledge on adaptation solutions through a series of roundtable discussions facilitated by the Global Center on Adaptation, as a knowledge broker for adaptation solutions. These knowledge exchanges between the city of Beijing and international experts helped inform and shape Beijing’s water restoration strategy.
