Harnessing the power of youth in National Adaptation Plans
The side event ‘Harnessing the Power of Youth in National Adaptation Plans’ will bring together young leaders, governments, and international organizations at the NAP Expo 2023, the key gathering to raise ambition of adaptation action and policies organized by the UNFCCC Least Developed Countries Expert Group.
Event description:
The world is home to the largest population of young people in history, with 1.21 billion young people aged 15-24 living in the world today. Young people are agents of change. Engaging young people in the formulation and implementation of policies including National Adaptation Plans (NAP) and projects is crucial for implementing innovative solutions and accelerating climate-resilient development (IPCC, 2022).
The event ‘Harnessing the Power of Youth in National Adaptation Plans’, organized by GCA’s Youth Leadership Program in collaboration with the LEG/Multi-stakeholder subgroup and the Local Conference of Youth Chile (LCOY), brought together young leaders, governments, and international organizations to:
- Raise awareness on the benefits of youth participation in adaptation policy- and decision-making processes.
- Share lessons learnt on preparing young people to withstand climate change impacts.
- Showcase youth-led adaptation solutions.
- Identify good practices, methodologies, and recommendations to prepare the Guide on Youth Engagement in NAPs.
