Nairobi Nature Positive Engineering Roundtable
Event description
ICSI, the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), the University of Nairobi and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) will co-convene the Nairobi Nature Positive Engineering Roundtable on 1st November 2024 to explore how engineering practices can protect, restore, and enhance natural ecosystems, focusing on coastal and marine environments. The event will feature a combination of presentations, best practice case studies, and interactive discussions and will explore how current successes can be scaled up and made more mainstream. The roundtable will primarily focus on:
- Coastal protection and adaptation, addressing the growing risks faced by coastal communities.
- Ports and shipping, ensuring future development in this sector aligns with biodiversity conservation and pollution reduction.
This roundtable is part of a broader Foresight Review on Nature Positive Engineering, aimed at exploring how engineering practices can protect, restore, and enhance natural ecosystems. With a particular focus on coastal and marine environments. The review will bring together leading voices from the region to discuss current research, emerging trends, and best practices, with the goal of shaping a more sustainable future. The Foresight Review publication, due in Q2 2025, will include recommendations, prioritized interventions, and actions to accelerate and scale up the safe implementation of NPE solutions globally.
