Event description

As part of the “Comoros Maritime Corridor Development and Regional Trade Facilitation Project” in Comoros, financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and other technical and financial partners, the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is providing technical assistance to the Government of Comoros to integrate climate adaptation and resilience into the rehabilitation and expansion of port infrastructure.

The project aims to strengthen maritime infrastructure, improve logistics, and enhance regional trade, while promoting inclusive socio-economic development and gender inclusion through the expansion of port facilities.

In this context, GCA and its partners are convening a stakeholder consultation workshop to present the findings of the climate risk assessment and the proposed adaptation options for the ports of Moroni, Boingoma, and Mutsamudu. The consultation will include a discussion of port climate stress tests and the cost-benefit analysis of adaptation options, which range from engineered solutions to nature-based solutions.

Objectives:
The consultation aims to:

  • Present the outcomes of the climate risk assessments and resilience testing conducted at three key seaports.
  • Discuss the proposed adaptation options and gather feedback from stakeholders.
  • Engage national and local stakeholders on integrating climate resilience into port infrastructure planning and development.
  • Foster dialogue to support the implementation of context-appropriate, sustainable adaptation solutions.e key seaports.

This consultation provides a critical opportunity for stakeholders to shape the climate resilience pathway for key maritime infrastructure in Comoros.
