Climate Adaptation in Africa: A South-South knowledge and learning exchange workshop
The workshop will feature interactive plenary sessions where the project partners (ILRI, TAHMO consortium and AAAI) will present various aspects of their work and case studies, as well as group work sessions.
Event description
Despite contributing only 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, Africa bears the brunt of the impacts of climate change evidenced by increased frequency of floods, droughts and erratic weather patterns. These changes threaten food systems, livelihoods, and overall development across the continent.
The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) in collaboration with the African Adaptation Initiative (AAI) and in partnership with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory (TAHMO), and the Adaptation of African Agriculture Initiative (AAAI) is hosting a South-South knowledge and learning exchange workshop to strengthen the capacity of African stakeholders to generate and utilize climate risk information and to promote climate adaptation more broadly. The workshop will be held from 17th until 19th September 2024 at Park Inn By Radisson, Westlands in Nairobi, Kenya.
The overall goal of the workshop is to foster collaboration, share best practices and build capacity of key national and regional institutions across Africa working in the area of climate adaptation planning. The specific objectives of the workshop are as follows:
-To expose key national and regional institutions to tools, methodologies and frameworks used in adaptation planning, climate risk management and early warning systems.
- To facilitate sharing of experiences, best practices, successes and lessons in adaptation planning, climate risk management and early warning systems especially within the context of agriculture and food security, between key national and regional stakeholders from across Africa.
- To stimulate collaboration between key national and regional stakeholders in adaptation planning, climate risk management and early warning systems in Africa’s agricultural sector.
- To identify areas of future support by GCA to continuously enhance climate adaptation capacity at national and regional levels across Africa.
