HE President Macky Sall at Groundbreaking of the Global Center on Adaptation Dual Headquarters

L et me begin by deeply thanking President Ruto.
And the people of Kenya.
For your friendship.
And for your leadership.

President Ruto, your leadership, on climate is clear. You have made Kenya a center for green growth and resilience. I commend your efforts.

It is also a privilege to stand with a global leader, His Excellency, BKM. As Secretary-General your legacy speaks for itself. As the eight Secretary-General of the United Nations you secured the Paris Agreement.

Allow me also to recognize Professor Patrick Verkooijen, CEO of the Global Center on Adaptation. It is thanks to you determination that the GCA has grown into a force for real solutions.

Your Excellencies, this is an important day for Africa.
The absolute frontline of the climate crisis.

Yet, our groundbreaking marks a new era.
One of renewed, and equal, partnership North-South, and South-North.

With this new office set to host our new dual Headquarters of the Global Center on Adaptation, I am proud to serve as the Chair of the Board of the GCA.

And to be here with you today as we break ground for this unique new dual heaquarters.

Nairobi is the perfect place for this office.
It is dynamic.
Connected.
Forward-looking.
One of the leading global centers for the planet.

Adaptation is not secondary.
It is a lifeline.
Without adaptation, there can be no sustainable development.

I am proud that the GCA will anchor its work here.
And especially proud that the AAAP—Africa’s flagship program—will now be positioned to grow stronger from this very place.

This is not just an office.
It is a platform.
For African voices.
And African solutions, home-grown.

The GCA looks forward to working hand-in-hand with Kenya, with Africa and with the world.

Together, we can build a more resilient Africa for all.

I thank you.
Asante Sana.
