Training and mentoring for journalists, by BBC Media Action

Join the training and mentoring offered by BBC Media Action in collaboration with the Global Center on Adaptation to learn how you can contribute as a journalist to support adaptation action in the battle against the impacts of climate change.

We seek journalists who:

  • Currently work for a government or private television channel in the Kurigram, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Bhola, Patuakhali, and Bagerhat districts of Bangladesh only and have at least five years of work experience in TV journalism
  • Have interest and experience in covering issues related to the impacts of climate change, poverty, vulnerability, local innovation, water, agriculture, rural development, etc., and related socioeconomic and policy issues
  • Are passionate about issues of justice, local leadership, poverty eradication, and effective policy and institutional responses
  • Having demonstrable prior experience in covering Climate change/Locally Led Adaptation-related stories will be considered an added advantage

About the Course

The training will give you the opportunity to interact with national and international experts on climate change and on journalism; publish and showcase your work on international platforms (including at COP28); open up new avenues for your careers; and help you to contribute meaningfully to addressing one of the biggest challenges currently faced by humankind. 

All content generated during the course will be published on GCA’s Global Hub on Locally Led Adaptation

The training course will run from August 2023 to April 2024, and be structured to suit the schedules of working journalists. 

At the end of the course, you will: 

  • Understand the impacts of climate change on poor and vulnerable communities, and on key development sectors that are critical for the poor, in Bangladesh. 
  • Understand why local leadership is critical to win the battle. 
  • Learn how to report effectively on impacts and on local responses, in ways that have maximum impact
