Event description

Background
The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) has been providing expert solutions in supporting acceleration and scaling up of climate change adaption solutions in Bangladesh, aligning its work program with the national priorities outlined in the comprehensive Bangladesh Strategy and Work Program (National Adaptation Plan 2023-2050). With the ongoing support of the Government of Bangladesh  in particular the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and collaboration with both local and international partners, GCA has focused on delivering results across its three key pillars: Locally Led Adaptation (LLA), Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for systemic resilience, and Climate Finance (CF).

In April 2024, the first Annual GCA Bangladesh Work Program Consultation Meeting marked a significant milestone in the program’s progress. Through productive and forward-thinking discussions, stakeholders collectively reviewed GCA Bangladesh work programs past achievements, identified challenges, and outlined opportunities to strengthen its climate adaptation efforts in Bangladesh. The meeting highlighted the importance of continued collaboration and coordination to ensure that adaptation solutions are scaled up effectively across sectors such as locally led adaptation, infrastructure, water and urban systems, and climate specific agricultural resilience.

Building on the outcomes of the first meeting, the envisaged second consultation aims to further refine and consolidate the strategies discussed, with a particular focus on making plans more actionable, identifying solutions for emerging challenges, and ensuring that adaptation interventions are effectively scaled up through a working session.

Meeting Objective and Expected Outcomes
The primary objective of this second consultation is to engage stakeholders in reviewing the proposed 2025 GCA Bangladesh Workplan, ensuring that it is both actionable and impactful. The specific aims for the meeting include:

  • Reviewing Key Outcomes and Progress: Reflect on the key takeaways from the first meeting and assess the progress made since then, focusing on 2024 implementation.
  • Deepening the Discussion on Key Pillars: Engage participants in more focused, detailed discussions on specified theme of the three core pillars—Locally Led Adaptation (LLA), Nature-based Solutions (NbS), and Climate Finance (CF)—to strengthen the 2025 work program.
  • Enhancing Stakeholder Collaboration: Foster stronger collaboration between GCA, government agencies, local and international partners, and financial institutions; and gather feedback from the working level discussions.
