As part of its commitment to build on, improve, and deliver breakthrough climate adaptation solutions, the Global Center on Adaptation is offering a Young Leadership Program for university students from all regions of the world who are keen in developing new skills in a diverse and challenging environment.

T he Program allows students to bring new perspectives, innovative ideas, and the latest research experience into the work of the Global Center on Adaptation, located in Rotterdam and Groningen, the Netherlands.

Fostering synergies between original and applied research is one of the overarching objectives of the internship program. The Program seeks candidates in the following fields: economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social sciences (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, engineering, geography, law, social psychology and planning, natural resources management, private sector development, and other related fields.

During the programme, interns will:

  • develop practical skills to improve their leadership profile and become more effective in implementing concrete solutions within the overall scope of the Global Center on Adaptation;
  • be able to consider a wide range of perspectives and connect different points of view;
  • be equipped with a repertoire of tools that will enable them become more effective in challenging situations.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for an internship, candidates must have an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (pursuing a master’s or Ph.D.’s degree with plans to return to school full-time). Fluency in English is required. Additional knowledge of other languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and/or Chinese is desirable. Skills such as social competences and computing are advantageous.

Deadline for applying is Sunday, 31 March 2019, 21:00h (CET). The Selection Committee aims to communicate the decision to applicants on Monday, 15 April before 16:00h (CET).
The internship will take place from May 15 until August 15 at both locations of the Global Center on Adaptation. Interns will be entitled to an hourly basis salary.
