A ll along the Sahel, climate change and desertification are impacting peoples’ way of life. The Great Green Wall is an adaptation project running from Senegal to Djibouti, helping to tackle desertification and poverty simultaneously.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has been supporting the on-the-ground implementation of Africa’s Great Green Wall through the Action Against Desertification program. The program implemented land restoration activities focused on communities’ livelihood improvement and adaptation needs. It established income-generating enterprises that support economic growth, land productivity and environmental protection, including the development of non-timber forest products with native species that were also planted.
