Sectoral Workshop on National Climate Resilient Infrastructure Roadmap
Event Description
The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) of the Government of Bangladesh joined forces in 2022 to stress test the resilience of critical infrastructure systems and assets against current and projected climate hazards in Bangladesh. The stress test uses high-resolution spatial data on climate hazards, infrastructure networks and assets, and socio-economic data to assess exposure and quantify the direct and indirect damages to the provision of infrastructure services at a national scale. The analysis also disaggregates climate impacts through infrastructure systems by wealth quintile in coastal areas to help prioritize the needs of poor and vulnerable communities.
This high-level event will discuss the findings of the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Stress Test, share the initially identified list of potential climate resilient projects and gather feedback and inputs from key stakeholders to refine and prioritize the projects. The event will bring together government officials, development partners, International Finance Institutions and infrastructure experts to validate the proposed solutions and explore potential financing mechanisms. Through collaborative dialogue and expert input, the aim is to strengthen the project pipeline and ensure alignment with national development priorities while maximizing climate resilience benefits for Bangladesh’s most vulnerable communities.
Objectives
The key objective of this high-level event is to prioritize and select the final list of adaptation measures from the current list of 35 solutions. Additional expected outcomes include:
- Stakeholder alignment on stress test findings and proposed adaptation solutions
- Alignment of the prioritization criteria for the infrastructure resilience projects
- Identification of potential funding sources and financing mechanisms
- Strengthened partnerships between government entities and development partners
- Improved understanding of climate resilience needs across sectors
