Nature-based Solutions Compendium and Urban Climate Risk Profiles Training for Kenya
Building on World Bank’s ongoing support to Kenya as part of the Second Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP2), GCA provided technical assistance to drive country-wide, transformative systemic change by strengthening the capacity of key stakeholders in urban climate resilience. This work was realized through an expanded collaboration with the World Bank, State Department for Housing and Urban Development (SDHUD), and Kenya School of Government (KSG).
GCA’s support included a comprehensive compendium of Nature-based Solutions (NBS) documenting existing practices in Kenya, and approaches for scaling these via recommendations for practical, financial and institutional actions. Separately, GCA developed a series of training modules to support the KUSP2 program. The training modules are based on a training-of-trainers approach to support Urban Climate Risk Profiles across all Kenyan counties. The training-of-trainers approach ensures GCA’s work is sustained and carried forward by other project stakeholders. The urban resilience trainings have been developed with the support of a sounding board consisting of senior Kenyan urban sector stakeholders and is being hosted by the Kenyan School of Government.
