The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), in partnership with the International Coalition on Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI) and in consultation with local experts and institutions, is pleased to release Gender-Responsive and Socially Inclusive Climate-resilient Infrastructure: A Practitioner’s User Guide on Incorporating Gender (available in English and Bangla), alongside a companion Case Study Booklet and appendices with detailed applications for the transport and energy sectors.
Developed in the context of Bangladesh’s growing climate risks and infrastructure needs, the guide provides practical recommendations for integrating gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) considerations across the infrastructure lifecycle, from planning and design to delivery and long-term management. Grounded in field research and practitioner experience across Bangladesh, the publication highlights how climate hazards interact with social vulnerabilities, and why resilient infrastructure must address both physical and social resilience together. The release includes practical checklists, sector-specific overview tables covering energy, transport and social infrastructure, as well as case studies on cyclone shelters and railway infrastructure in Bangladesh.
This work was made possible through GCA’s work in Bangladesh, with support from Global Affairs Canada.
