GCA to form Youth Advisory Panel
In response to the need to empower youth and engage them in steering the future of climate adaptation, GCA is set to launch a Youth Advisory Panel to the CEO of GCA during the upcoming inauguration of the floating office that houses GCA headquarters on 6th September.
T
he Global Center on Adaptation Youth Advisory Panel will be a 12-member, gender-balanced group of young people representing every region of the world.
“Youth are agents of change and their participation is crucial in building climate-resilient development. I invite young people from all over the world to apply to be part of the Global Center on Adaptation’s Youth Advisory Panel and work with us to accelerate adaptation solutions,” said Adriana Valenzuela, GCA’s Youth Leadership Program Lead.
The panel will provide strategic advice to the CEO of GCA, Prof. Dr. Patrick Verkooijen. For this reason, panel candidates, who should be between the ages of 15 and 35 years and current members of GCA’s Youth Adaptation Network (YAN), are expected to have extensive experience in youth engagement and climate adaptation topics.
Panel members will lead the YAN in forming strategic alliances to achieve its goals. Members of the advisory panel will serve for a one-year period, during which they will facilitate youth engagement at the regional and national level through the YAN and other youth platforms.
They will participate in virtual meetings with GCA’s CEO, while at the same time conducting meetings with the YAN to gather input and support their adaptation efforts. The panel will assist in the implementation of YAN activities, such as the Youth Adaptation Dialogues that kicked off in June, and provide capacity-building to the youth network.
The Youth Advisory Panel will be selected through an open call for nominations through YAN.
Those who seek to give a voice to their fellow young people and become an integral part of the climate adaptation agenda can apply here to join the Youth Advisory Panel. The deadline to receive applications is 29th August 2021.
