Food Security
Rates of hunger and food insecurity are growing. Climate change exerts more pressure on agrifood systems due to the high vulnerability of smallholder farmers who produce much of the food but are dependent on rainfed farming. Ambitious climate action through increased investments in climate adaptation is vital to support smallholder farmers who are often the most exposed to climate impacts and have the least access to resources to build climate resilience.
Our Food Security Program supports the design, mainstreaming, and adoption of climate-smart digital technologies into food security investment projects and programs through our core business line:

Goals for 2025
Sustained uptake of digital adaptation solutions
for at least 30 million farmers in Africa and improve food security in at least 26 countries.
GCA mainstreams digital climate advisory services and adaptation solutions into agriculture and food security investments financed by International Finance Institutions (IFIs) by:
- Developing knowledge analytics, including landscape analyses and digital agriculture profiling of countries, to identify key integration nodes and better inform food security investment by IFIs
- Capacity building and training support for digital climate advisory services
- Knowledge acceleration by generating, sharing, and applying climate adaptation knowledge
GCA’s support includes a focus on women, who represent a large share of the labor force in agriculture. Fewer women use digital agriculture solutions than men because of a gap in education levels and digital literacy. Increasing the digital literacy of women is, therefore, a key target of GCA’s capacity-building support.
